Dr. Dario Cebic

born in Zagreb, first learned piano and violin at a young age before switching to piano, double bass, music theory and composition. He first attended elementary and secondary schools in Zagreb before pursuing higher education in piano, double bass, composition, musicology, music theory, music education, conducting and musicology. He acquired several diplomas and began doctoral studies in musicology (Dr. phil.) in 2006, studied composition (postgraduate studies) with Prof. Michael Obst at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, as well as special courses with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Dieter Mack, Oscar van Dillen and Martijn Padding. In 2012 he received his doctorate. phil at the University of Art in Graz. In 2017 he completed his doctorate in composition.
Specialization in composition: at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt and State Conservatory “Jacobo Tomadini” in Udine. Specialization in musicology and analysis of the 20th century at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin and the University of Freiburg.
His catalog of works includes more than 1000 compositions in a wide variety of instrumentation and styles: 12 symphonies, 2 piano concertos, 4 chamber symphonies, countless chamber, piano and vocal music. Member of the composer groups “Steirischer Ton Künstlerbund”, “Österreichische Musikrat”, “Internationale Gesellschaft für New Music” and “Austrian Composers’ Association”. He has been awarded numerous prizes (1st Prize on International Music Competition in Paris, 1st Prize on International Music Competition in Barcelona, Special Prize in Beijing/Beijing 2019, 1st Prize International Composition Competition in Vienna 2012 and 2020, 1st Prize on International Music Competition in Barletta 2019, 1st Prize on International Composition Competition Bari, Italy 2015 and 2016, 2nd Prize on International Composition Competition in Greece, 2nd prize on European Music Competition 2017, award from “European and World Folklore Association (official partner UNESCO)” 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020, 1st prize International Composition Competition InterArtia 2015 and 2016, 2nd prize Composition Competition in Zagreb – “Croatian Cultural Association”, prize of Croatian Minister of Culture for “Symphony for large Orchestra” 2013, 2nd prize on International Composition Competition “Egidio Carella” – Val Tidone International Music Competitions, special prizes in New York 2013 and 2014, special prize on the Composition Competition in Osijek and Madrid, 1st Prize on International Composition Competition “Giuseppe Raciti” 2015 and 2016. etc. In 2015, he was awarded the “Artist of the Year 2014” prize in composition by International Art Society & Academy.
Several CDs and books have been published (e.g. "Compositions of the 21st Century", "The Development of Tamburizza Playing in Croatia and Austria", "Compositions of the 21st Century - New Aspects, Sounds and Styles through the Use of South Slavic folk instruments in contemporary music”) with his works.
