Subject: Violin

Mag. Kliment Turtow, a third-generation Austrian musician, born in Vienna in 1970, began playing the violin at the age of 4 under the guidance of his parents, two well-known concertmasters at the United Stages and Soloists in Vienna. 

At the age of fourteen he attended the University of Music in Vienna. His teachers included Florian Zwieauer, concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Khadem Missagh, concertmaster of the Lower Austrian Tonkunstler, and Timon Hornig, section leader of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. There he learned about the many colorful color palettes of music interpretation, especially Viennese classical music. 

He soon moved to Sophia, Bulgaria, where he began a second course of study at the local state music university. His professors included Vladimir Avramov, head of the State Music Academy in Sofia and the faculty of music interpretation. 

Prize winner at the international “Varna Summer Music Festival”. 

After completing his studies with distinction, he began a one-year assistantship at the Sophia State University of Music in Bulgaria with Professor Vladimir Avramov. 

His repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the most important works of classical and romantic music to contemporary music. He fascinates listeners with his intense musicality and interpretation. 

The particularly versatile artist also dedicated himself to contemporary music, which led to his participation in numerous premieres and collaboration with composers including Gerhard Track, President of the Austrian Composers' Association and former head of the Music and Art Private University (MUK). 

Extensive concert activity as a soloist with the Duo Turtow in important concert halls in Europe. 

Courses and seminars as well as master classes in Bulgaria, China, Russia and Austria shaped his artistic career. Soloistic activity and CD recordings with the Bulgarian state radio. 

Pedagogical activity since 1998 

  • Teaching position and head of the classical chamber music class at the Gustav Mahler Conservatory. 
  • From 2011 to 2020, Kliment Turtow worked as violin professor at the Prayner Conservatory. 
  • Since 2020 teaching at the Franz Schubert Conservatory.
