Vasile Marian was born in Baia-Mare/Transylvania.
After graduating from the local music high school (clarinet and oboe), he studied from 1980 at the “CM von Weber” University of Music in Dresden, majoring in oboe, with Wolfgang Bemmann and Burkhardt Glaetzner. During his studies he worked as a solo oboist in various orchestras (including the Vogtland Orchestra Reichenbach and the Riesa Symphony Orchestra). He gave frequent concerts with the Dresden Philharmonic and with the Virtuosi Saxoniae under the direction of Ludwig Güttler. As a member of the “Musica Viva Ensemble” (led by Prof. Udo Zimmermann), he came into extensive contact with contemporary music. Solo oboist with the Györ Philharmonic.
Vasile Marian has lived in Vienna as an Austrian citizen since 1988. Extensive activities in Austria as a chamber musician, orchestra musician, teacher and primarily as a soloist; numerous premieres of pieces dedicated to him as well as CD recordings, radio recordings and television recordings.
From 1988 to 1993 Vasile Marian was a member of the Klangforum Wien. Regular collaboration with the Ensemble Collage, the Ensemble 20. Jahrhundert, the Vienna Mozart Academy, the Austrian Chamber Harmony, the Orchestra Internazionale d'Italia, the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic, among others. Member of the United Theaters Vienna since 1996 and also works as a professor of oboe at the Schubert Conservatory. Works with various ensembles in the field of improvised music. Numerous appearances at the steirischer herbst, the Wien modern festival, the Klangbogen Wien and the Dresden Days for contemporary music. Played with well-known conductors such as Yehudi Menuhin, Arturo Tamayo, Nicholas McGegan Theodor Guschlbauer. Tours in Spain, Italy, England, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Japan and USA. Vasile Marian masters a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque to contemporary music.
