Prof. Eleftherios Grigoriadis

The versatile cultural mediator Prof. Eleftherios Grigoriadis has lived in Innsbruck since 1961 and comes from the Greek Ptolemaida. Here he studied geology and economics and completed singing studies at the conservatory. Throughout his life he was committed to social causes. He is involved as a central committee mandatary, a social officer in the Austrian Students' Union in Vienna and in the immigration officer, and repeatedly campaigned politically for peace and democratic dialogue during the dictatorship in Greece and later.

Prof. Eleftherios Grigoriadis is a founding member of Amnesty International in Innsbruck.

He made great contributions to his extensive work in adult education and cultural mediation. As early as 1976, he - now working as a baritone at the State Theater - founded the Austrian-Greek Society in Innsbruck, of which he is still president today. It thus formed the framework for countless cultural activities with a unifying connection between these countries. In 1995, as director, he created a center for cultural exchange by founding the Greek Cultural Institute in Innsbruck. He received a lot of attention through a large symposium in collaboration with the University of Innsbruck and the state of Tyrol. Grigoriadis is also known to many Tyroleans, but also Vorarlbergers and South Tyroleans, through his popular language courses at the adult education center.

In all his activities, Prof. Eleftherios Grigoriadis has always strived to maintain cultural relationships between countries and to promote international understanding through mutual understanding and interest in each other.
For his tireless efforts he has already been awarded the Golden Medal of Merit of the Republic of Austria, the Medal of Honor for Art and Culture. City of Innsbruck and the Great Merit Award from the Association of Austrian Adult Education Centers. The award of the professional title of Professor is a well-deserved, worthy expression of appreciation for his extensive achievements. In his homeland, on January 20, 2018, he was presented with the decoration of the city of Ptolemaida for his social commitment.
